The Difference Between Pronation and Supination
The pronation is a rotational movement of the feet. All of the people in the world have pronation. There are 3 types of pronation. The first one if the normal pronation, which is basically the main way we walk. There is absolutely no risk for you if you have normal pronation. The second type is over pronation, which means that the rotation that is done the sole of the foot to face more laterally than when standing in the anatomical position, which means that the foot is rolling inwards. This is very serious problem and often people think that is irrelevant, but there are quite serious consequences if the problem is not treated on time. To make sure that you will get the pronation fixed, pay a visit to an orthopaedist, who will be able to make a full set of exercises for you. Also one of the main things that you must do in order to make the pronation fixed is simply to rest for a while. The third type of pronation is the under pronation, commonly known as supination.
The supination means that the heel of the foot is rolling outwards. The supination is quite more serious than the over pronation, because the pronation generally helps the legs to absorb all of the shock and when the person have a supination the ability of the legs to absorb shock is reduced. To make sure that this problem will disappear you must again visit a specialist. Also you must change all of your running shoes with other that have special qualities of shock absorption and also you must avoid running for a while. Supination that is normally characterized by high arch, forces ankle to turn outward and putting more pressure all along its outer side of foot causing pain & fitting issues.
Both these conditions will create miserable conditions for feet & contribute to some other ailments in hips, knees, and lower back. As foot turns inward and outward (pronates and supinates) this affects angle that your hips, knees, and back rotate, and throwing them out of the alignment. As individual address problems with the knees, hips as well as backs, for some, solutions are found at the feet. And realigning the feet with help of the orthics or quality footwear will dramatically impact these areas. Pronation & Supination will create challenges for professional shoe fitter. And for pronation, pressure is placed more in arch area of your shoe that will cause shoe to gap. Use of the arch pads and orthotics can lift an arch, and support it as well as distribute weight evenly over your foot. Lots of lower rated shoes are made of the inferior materials, which break down & stretch out. This once again causes foot to fall-out of the alignment. One must look for strong full grain leather. Thicker leather is stronger & can withstand an additional pressure of pronated / supinated foot. Tie shoe will perform best, for any condition, since it allows for an individual adjustment on every foot.
